making healthcare whole
Protocol development in integrative medicine is not typically a simple process. Individuals require individualized care, and what works for one patient may not work for another.
To establish these protocols, we first developed a Rating Scale that could be used to discern the rigor of evidence supporting a specific nutrient’s therapeutic effect.
The following protocols were developed using only A through D-quality evidence.

500 mg, three times per day, minimum 12 weeks1
-
In diabetic patients, demonstrated a reduction in blood glucose levels comparable in effect to hypoglycemic pharmaceutical interventions2
-
Overall effectiveness measured by reduction of T2DM biomarkers2
Berberine in the Fullscript catalog.
Chromium Picolinate
500 mcg, two times per day, minimum four weeks3
-
Current literature confirms a minor reduction in blood glucose when supplemented consistently for four weeks or longer3
-
Chromium supplements should be taken with a carbohydrate-containing meal4
Chromium Picolinate in the Fullscript catalog.
Psyllium Husk
5 g, three times per day, minimum six weeks5
-
In diabetic patients, demonstrated minor to moderate reduction in blood glucose levels6
15 g daily is a minimum dose and can be titrated up gradually to patient tolerance5 -
However, no current literature points to an increased benefit using more than 15 g daily5
Psyllium Husk in the Fullscript catalog.
